Dish wins New Zealand Magazine of the Year!
Dish was judged the 2006 New Zealand Magazine of the Year at the recent awards run by the Magazine Publishers Association.
The judges’ commented that Dish “achieved this accolade as a result of all-round excellence. It was a brilliant collaborative effort”. And of course the other collaborators were Jones Publishing and editor Catherine Bell of Epicurean Workshop.
Award judge Caroll du Chateau pointed to Dish’s point of difference. “We all thought it had a wonderful feel about it. We felt the cuisine sort of market was a little stale and that Dish was really new and fresh and it was lovely to see a magazine that was coming from a new publishing house.”
Dish also won Magazine of the Year in the Home and Food category and Cover of the Year in the same category. Mary Davy, Maxim’s creative director, also received a Highly Commended for Top Gear, another of Jones’ publications.
Mary, the creative force behind Dish, is supported by a talented design and account management team.
“Each issue is meticulously planned and is the outcome of everyone’s efforts including our collaboration with Jones Publishing,” said Mary. “It is our commitment to quality and creative insight that has enabled us to produce a magazine that is different to anything else in the marketplace and is of an international standard.”
Special effort is spent on creating the right cover shot. “This is the first thing the reader sees and we endeavour to whet their appetite for what is inside,” said Mary. “The challenge each issue is coming up with a concept that is much more than just a food shot.”
The hard work certainly paid off with Dish picking up its second consecutive Cover of the Year title.
