Thrive Auckland - "Big day out" for business

THRIVE Auckland lived up to its billing as the business community’s ‘big day out’. Held at the Aotea Centre, an audience of more than 2,000 was entertained for nine hours by a line-up of high-quality speakers.

All tastes were catered for from the high fashion of Trelise Cooper to the low chassis of V8 super cars and Greg Murphy. In between a number of business leaders spoke about their road to success. For many, Michael Hill, speaker, was the morning highlight. With typical vim and directness he told his story to a captivated audience.

It sees almost unfair to pick a highlight from the afternoon session, but John Allen, the Chief Executive of New Zealand Post requires special mention. Despite coming from Hamilton (his words), his high octane address was stirring and inspirational. In some ways the content was irrelevant, such was the power and conviction of John’s delivery.

Our Managing Director, Lezlie Mearns, did Maxim proud. No prizes for guessing her subject. One of themes of Lezlie’s speech was the tangible benefits of branding and THRIVE Auckland provided a convincing example.

Maxim rebranded THRIVE Auckland in advance of this year’s event. In her speech Lezlie remarked, “This year there have been more people wanting to attend, they have booked in a shorter period of time, for the first time bookings had to be closed and the websites of sponsoring organisations have received more hits compared to the two previous years.

“All due in part to a rebranding exercise which more accurately conveyed the positioning of the brand and the execution of integrated communications plan.”

As part if its promotional activities at the event Maxim put up a prize of a luxury cruise for eight on Waitemata Harbour, which was won by David Curtis of Essential Cuisine.

In addition, Maxim offered companies a brand audit at a reduced fee. The uptake exceeded all expectations.

Once again THRIVE Auckland managed to out-performance last year’s event, And no doubt, after a formal debrief is completed, planning will commence on THRIVE Auckland 2007.
