Prince charms rugby crowd and upstages the MCs

There is no doubt he has a way about him. In his role as UK Special Representative, International Trade & Investment Prince Andrew was the star turn at The Heineken Pre Rugby World Cup 2007 Gala Dinner.
Earlier in the day he had made a keynote address to the Opportunity UK Trade and Investment Summit. This event was designed, as the title suggests, to encourage business between the UK and New Zealand.
During a lull in summit proceedings Madam MD found herself in the presence of HRH where a polite conversation took place on a subject that was clearly close to both their hearts, grooming.
The Gala Dinner followed the summit in the evening and was emceed by McPhail and Gadsby. It would be true to say that they weren’t match fit.
The evening required rescuing and Prince Andrew responded with aplomb. He delivered a 20 minute off-the-cuff speech that was witty, gracious and insightful; and prepared the ground for Colin Meads, Graham Henry and their cohorts.
